Rocks?

yup twas EH that did the dastardly deed and took away the signs we posted around the hill :(
(Not that Anyone took any notice mind you!)

What we need is on-site wardens/guardians at some of the most heavily visited special sites, its strange* how councils willingly fund parking wardens to issue fines but do not do the same for ancient scheduled monuments which also come under law-breaking rules... same rule can also be applied for litter (Heavy fines) as well which seems to work pretty well in towns... there's new strict guidelines laid down for walking in the countryside as well now..
*not really strange just oodles of cash to fill the coffers.

I thought that wsa odd, them removing the signs! We saved them a few quid, anyway... Maybe people would take more notice if EH put their own official signs up? Who knows? Silbury's probably slightly different in that it does seem to draw certain people like magnets who just can't keep their grubby boots off it... Most other places (Avebury, etc) probably just suffer from ignorance - not in a nasty way - just people simply not knowing that they shouldn't climb the stones! I suppose it may be reasonable to them that "it's made of rock - what damage can they do?"

IS there anything we can do to raise the pressure to EH to get some signage?

I still think there's nowt wrong with us making our own signs (as long as they don't just end up as litter, of course!)
