it's in the field to the north of the tree avenue... in line with that field boundary that goes north-south past 'hazelton wood'. I fear that could be a clue.

Yes, got it now. Google earth does suggest that there may have been a boundary feature running across that field and that the mound might be the site of an old hedge-line perhaps? Is that the stone that's visible?
