Limestone you say, not much experience of it myself but it does weather quickly so i'd expect lots of rilling on the top, if indeed limestone acts in a similar way to other stone i do have experience of.
One of the reasons (I'm sure there are lots of others) The Cotswolds lack standing stones generally is that limestone isn't very hard-wearing. If you go to any graveyards with limestone gravestones from the 18th/19th century, they're usually really badly eroded.

Rhiannon, is this near Monkton Farleigh? The grid ref looks like the middle of some kind of tree-lined avenue connected to the manor, but that doesn't really match your pics...

it's in the field to the north of the tree avenue... in line with that field boundary that goes north-south past 'hazelton wood'. I fear that could be a clue.
