As a resident of Essex I can say its a big Yes to being a desrert of most things, historically and probably culturaly.

There's a couple of reasonable Earthworks in Epping Forest and thats about all your going to find.

Give it a couple of Thousand years and they will be excavating the ruins of the out of Town Superstores so loved by Essex Man.

Thanks, That's what I suspected :-(

I know about the Epping sites, and have visited them in the past, as they're not too far from me.

I found details of a Cursus investigated in Springfield, NE Chelmsford in the 80's, but can't see any clues to it on the map - looks totally built over now.
