I still think she is very feminine or extremely camp. To be honest I didn't see her as a mermaid until it was raised earlier. My local river spirit is called Peg Powler, she's an awful woman, with green hair and sharp teeth, who drags little children into the river.
Someone has obviously gone to a lot of trouble to create and transport her to the site which I guess, kind of embodies the whole spirit of an offering, rather than the usual tat which folk tend to leave at this and many other sites.
I think I've mentioned my ideas on Wiltshire and Glastonbury being the nations 'freak-magnets' leaving the rest of us to enjoy our ancient sites in relative peace. As such, I would say that the lovely lady is a fitting goddess of freakdom.
What I enjoyed most about her was that she got up a few folks noses and made me laugh.
