Ya they are still on the map, it seems to happen quiet often in ireland, even though they have been removed for a long time they still appear on the map. Thats why if I find an instance of this happening i normally put it up here just in case someone else goes looking for them. Im sure there would be a local historian and if i do happen to talk to anyone i will enquire but in the case of this stone i would say it was a fairly bog standard standing stone and so its demise might not have been recorded.

I agree that the demise of the stone might not be recorded, but it might be possible to figure out when it was last recorded as being there.

It's interesting to learn about the differences in mapping between the UK and Eire. Are the Irish OS maps a bit more (how do I put this politely?) shonky?
