mmmmm oh yes. Wales to the South, Scotland to the North, Isle of Man to the West...

Took your advice (say no more ;) and appreciated the extra stablility when I took a wrong turn and ended up on a 20cm ledgepaththing with a near vertical drop to one side.

Its amazing to think they probably lived up on the plateau behind the factory for most of the year. Talking of which, there seems to be a circular feature near the centre of that plateau, clearly visible from the top of Pike o' Sickle. And where is the man-made cave??

Oh and coming vaguely back to topic, I found a piece of (what I think is) Langdale stone nr Castlerigg. Think thats one to take to the FLO next time I visit.

>a near vertical drop to one side.

Eeurgh. Worth it for the view though.
Dunno about the cave, I'd love to see it meself.

I'm just reading some stuff about how prestiege axes seemed to be quarried in especially difficult/dangerous to get to places. I might be more interested in status symbols if things were still the same today. If I knew they'd been made whilst sitting on top of a wobbly pole above a pirhana pit, in a gale, whilst being attacked by tigers, they would seem a bit more special.

Juamei,

"And where is the man-made cave??"

It's part way down the steep scree gully, the one on the left (east side) of Pike o' Stickle as you look down to Mickleden, in the right hand wall. You can't see it unless you descend.
