I thought about the tune thing when I was up at the rock. How long would it take to work out how big the gaps between each hole would need to be in order to get the tune? There would be know "notes" so it would just be that the timing was similar. I am afraid i can not accept that theory..even if an expert suggested it. I have never come across the story in my research up on the moor...whereas the idea of just letting off little explosives randomly does hold water. The rock in question overlooks the whole Pheonix mining area and also the several small settlements..and in theory can be seen from as far away as Dartmoor.

....but I do like the idea of them being much older...perhaps when you lot can stop bickering about who is the expert someone will come and have a look.
