I come home for some peace and suddenly everyone wants to know about my holes!

The story is that they were holes made to let off gunpowder in, we had a forum posting a couple of months ago on the subject..it was suggested by Lubin that they played God save the Queen if arranged right !!!

That is the story....who knows if it is right or if it is a tale that has been told down through the generations? I would love to think they are rock art.

There are aslo a few holes of a similar size in the fallen stone at Trethevy Quoit.

Most of these holes are only about 3 cm accross and a similar depth.

I will post a few more pics asap.

It was stan that told me, over the phone, that these things are called micro-cups. Are they just over one face of the stone ? Is the ridge that can be made out in one of the photographs a seam of siliceous grit ? And has there been any ancient metal smelting known in the vicinity ?
