I am very confident that it is the Bu of Orphir standing stone, whether that was prehistoric or simply a findspot for prehistoric artefacts is unknowable.

Fair enough, but if there were a chance that the stone was prehistoric, wouldn't someone have spotted it before?

This stone looks relatively recently cut. It's not weathered enough to be prehistoric. I'd put my money on it being a gate post.

Why do you think it's not a relatively modern gate post?
