you must have an older copy than mine as i cannot see it.
There is a photo in Pollard & Reynolds book Avebury a biog of a landscape.
Plate 11 has a photo by Whittle of the Palisade excavations and the mound can clearly be seen in the top left.
There is no mention of it in the book tho.

Do you mean Stukeley's classic serpent drawing Jim? A circular feature is shown on that (search Google Images for Stukeley).

Regarding whether it's much regarded, it seems to be just outside the line of the World Heritage Site so wasn't thought much of at that time...
