And I agree that not all of them are of this nature. I reckon that a lot of petroglyphs are religious, but some must be star/land charts.

In the mean time take a look at this baby

I haven't reached this yet, although it is only about 35 miles from where I live. I would also like to see the others that have been found in the area. The OS reference on this page is wrong and out by about 10 miles. The OS map has it marked but as a bullaun stone. This is certainly no bullaun, but is probably the missing ling between cup & ring and the later bullaun stones.

Maybe I'll go find it over yule when I have some time off.

7.6 cm deep cups- jeezo!! How long must that have taken??
V V nice rock, bet ya can't wait to see it.
Cheery,

PS- I posted the reversed colour Tormain image yesterday. I was hoping the photos I took there were going to be a bit clearer, but I was almost blown off my feet I s'pose. Ah well- juts means I'll have to go back-shame ;) I'll try and post the oethr pics next week.

what has struck me for a long time is the similarity between cup and ring markings and that of australian aboriginal art. Although I doubt there is any connection between the two we may be able to learn something from the culture of the aboriginals and apply this to our ancient cultures where the knowledge of such symbolism has been lost.
