Thanx FourWinds!
I have many theories about cup n ring markings, including land maps and sky maps, but I would hasten to add that I think this theory doesn't apply to all cup and ring designs (and that I am a mere biologist and have absolutely no archeological background whatsoever- but I personally feel this is a good thing!) Some may just be purely magickal, others more practical. I'm also not saying much more about my viewfinder theory until I have worked out both dates for all the sites that it may relate to, and I'm trying to play about with some of my pics to enhance the design (it's also looking like strong contender for a forthcoming tattoo ;)). I did some reverse colouring with MGI photosuite earlier today which not only enhanced the image but also looks nice n trippy n purple! I'll post one to the MA site if it looks okay and adds to the understanding of the cups n rings. The Newgrange design sounds cool- have you piccies for us???
Cheery,
Martin

The suspected 'drawing' of Newgrange is unfortunately situated, and so I am only able to get a good look at it on limited occasions. I will be talking to someone regarding it next week and so should be able to say more then. Hopefully I will have a photo too.

The design is not a styalised layout thing, but I believe a definite drawing of the mound. Personally, I think it may be one of the most important pieces of rock art in Ireland .... only no one knows it yet!!

And I agree that not all of them are of this nature. I reckon that a lot of petroglyphs are religious, but some must be star/land charts.

In the mean time take a look at this baby

I haven't reached this yet, although it is only about 35 miles from where I live. I would also like to see the others that have been found in the area. The OS reference on this page is wrong and out by about 10 miles. The OS map has it marked but as a bullaun stone. This is certainly no bullaun, but is probably the missing ling between cup & ring and the later bullaun stones.

Maybe I'll go find it over yule when I have some time off.
