'a round hole'

It's an odd one that hole. About 3ins deep, either a) something to place arod of some sort in, or b) an attempt to link the panel with the holed naturally holed stones found associated with rock art else where in the area (maybe).

Gods only know if similar marks are lying under places like Geltsdale or Kitten Tom. I'd like to think there are.

PS: Yonder Throckley stone is close enough to go and keep a check on it every now and then d'you think?

There are several holed stones in the Knarsdale and Kirkhaugh parish. Five stones, six holes, there's bound to be others. The archao-explanation is 'drilled for gunpowder in the industrial age'. We can only afford gunpowder in Knarsdale now - for the first time ...

There's a holed stone, or tolmen, near Rothbury, maybe, that is also without map reference that we should possibly locate. The hole may of be a similar size.
