Here's a picture of the 800 year old lichen colony http://www.heritageaction.org/?page=theheritagejournal&id=76

Note the yellow paint across it. It seems to have survived that so far but a permanent diet of deisel fumes might be just too much,

Its a f*ckin stoopid idea if you ask me, makes my blood boil!! There has been sooo much vandalism to our ancient sites recently, the Rollrights particularly so,
leave the stones alone!!

Quite apart from the damage to the lichen and vibrations to a sensitive ancient monument, the loss of serenity at an ancient monument, etc, that lane is TOTALLY unsuitable for HGVs.

If the scheme goes ahead (and I sincerely hope it doesn't!) if it wasn't widened somebody *WILL* get killed. There is currently no place for visitors to turn their vehicles safely, so right now its dangerous enough what with people having to do three-point turns in the lane.

Visitors (many with children, elderly rellies and doggies) cross the road to see the King Stone and the view down to Long Compton :-( We'll be waiting for the first fatality!

And if it is widened - where the HELL will the extra with come from?!

Chippy Norton council should be ashamed for even suggesting it!

Grrrrrr!! Very cross.

Can't get to the meeting tomorrow unfortunately as I have to be somewhere else.
