I think a brick building would be a much better alternative. Expensive though, I imagine. And would it require any change of planning permission? Did the wooden hut even need planning permission?

It is already a brick building, the interior and roof were unfortunately not.
Without making an army style compound , a la stonehenge, I am not sure, as I said " very sad"
What is happening to England?

Andy Norfolk has just posted this on the Stones List , I'm sure he won't mind me posting it here -

"There is a Rollright Trust board meeting this weekend. Unfortunately neither Karin nor I can be there, but the damage to the hut is on the agenda. The roof at one end is badly damaged, but the walls are sound.

I'll mention to the other trustees that people here are offering to raise money.
