There are three 'levels' of hand-fasting Jane: a Year and a Day, Life, and Eternal.

Year and a Day is for those who aren't sure.
Life is for those willing to make the commitment.
Eternal is serious stuff, and binds the souls for all time. No getting out of this one next time round!
