My thoughts on Wolstonbury would be that it possibly has stone in the name. The Wol part might be wall or it might be something else - like wolf or ...

Yeah, I have seen various spellings; Wolfonbury, Wolstanbury, Wolfonbury.

Nineteenth Century Antiquarian William Hamper speculated that 'the present name (Wolftanbury) is evidently derived from some Saxon Chieftain named Wolftan.'
He might have been making that up, though. You know what those 19th Century antiquarians were like!
