Well said. We should all respect their standpoint, but.............

I would like to add the people of Lewis were very friendly and helpful. I didn't notice any pubs outside of Stornaway, however, at the one restaurant we went into on the Uig road, 'Loch Croistean' - we were welcomed with the words "Shall I put the kettle on" and served the most delicious home cooked food.

Perhaps there is a counter argument that the standpoint of locals who do not share the apparent majority view, not to mention visitors bringing trade to the island, should be respected too? A couple of local inhabitants I spoke to some years back - 2004 - were deeply sceptical about what they saw as enforcement of draconian practices with no place in the 21st century. Dissent in the ranks?
