Sleeping Beauty

We went to Denmark in April and were delighted to see a thriving business in wind power. Windmills are everywhere. They didn't spoil the landscape at all. We thought they were gorgeous: graceful, hopeful, 'green' and powerful.

If we don't embrace wind power and other renewable energy sources FAST, there will be no landscape to enjoy. Nimbys need to get real and think about the future a bit.

Of course wind turbines are there to make money. Energy companies are not charities, they're in business, like the rest of us. If every farm had one or two turbines we'd soon generate enough 'green' electricity to power our society. Farmers are happy (as they earn a little cash out of the rent), we get clean, locally produced electricity and stop pumping out greenhouse gases.

Bring 'em on, I say. But of course we must be careful to protect sensitive habitats, etc.

I actually think wind turbines look quite beautiful.

As someone who grew up 5 minutes away from 2 nuclear power stations, (which destroyed one of the most beautiful bays on the North West coastline) I would much rather see wind turbines on the landscape than huge great power stations.

My friend who lives on Lewis has been working on the research into the environmental impact of wind turbines on the ecology and breeding habitats of birds and they have protested about the ones which were to be situated on the Sleeping Beauty.

Guilty as charged :-). An unashamed nimbyist!

So the whole of Wales is like an industrial estate ;-(. No thanks.

Perhaps we should just discuss how wind farms affect sites rather than tackle what is a very complex issue in general. I certainly have a few views on why the Tir Mostyn wind farm has buggered up Brenig.

We don't want any more wind farms, it's already windy enough
Sorry Jane, couldn't resist it :-) Quote from [b]28 Acts in 28 Minutes]/b] that started this evening on Radio 4.
