< a standing stone that was indicated on an old OS map up on the moor near Beckwithshaw, it was there but quite disappointing. However we got lost on the same walk in Haverah park (ancient hunting park) and found a strange mound with next to a stream with a flat a 4ft stone standing at the end of it. >

Was this anywhere near the old Haverah Park Lodge (now a farm)? Cos near here in 1871 William Grainge wrote: "is a fine group of rocks, among which are a druidical idol and altar, yet complete." We never looked for this, so its status is unknown. It's described as close to one of the nearby reservoirs to the north of Little Almscliffe.

The Standing Stone near Beckwithshaw is located from the B6161 the track that runs from the the school, past Keepers Cottage along the wall of Moor Park, follow the bends and eventually you'll reach a solitary stone with a iron hinge in it at a junction of tracks. It's a wild and windy spot, and not that loveable. see SE257 535

I wonder if the rocks/stones that you're looking for near Little Alsmsclife are the Hunters Stones? Though they're not to the North.

I noticed and area nearby on Snowden Scar/Craggs that contains loads of cup and ring marked stones, a settlement, and something called 'The Tree of Life' its between Askwith Moor Road, and Snowdon Carr road at ref SE177 511
