Then don't you think it is up to "US"as the new guardians of the stones to do something about it? All it takes is a pair of secuteers and a can of weedkiller that goes to the roots. It's not rocket science I personely do not like useing weedkiller but sometimes it's the only option, rather that than getting ripped to shreads trying to pull the dam things out.

Don't forget though you are on private land, weedkiller is not an option, animals could eat the poisoned stuff.. Gardener or Guardian is the question?
I suspect a lot depends on the farmer and his attitude to a) a lump of stones and all those pesky people who keep walking across his land to view it ;).... or b) a megalithic legacy to be protected for the enjoyment of the public. For instance, do we all have a right to take a photograph of every prehistoric stone?

Point taken but I still feel we need to remove any brambles or whatever in order to protect them. What about the ones that are not on farmers land?. Just go to Nine Stones Close to see what farmers do to stones you will find they have been removed from the circle to be placed in the wall to make stiles admitedly a long while ago, the current one just blocks the stiles with barb wire.
