No, it’s not just you, the multiple quotes (sometimes running into loads) drive me crazy. A simple reply is all that’s needed (quoting the original only for clarification).

It's because the computer sometimes puts the thing written nowhere near what you're replying to, so putting the quote there at least lets people know what you're replying to, it is annoying though!
