Hi Clint!
Glad you'll be dropping by our beautiful neck-of-the-woods. The must-sees between Oxf and Worcs are:

The Rollright Stones, Whispering Knights and King stone http://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/65

And very close by you'll find the massive Hoarstone at Enstone

A couple of impressive menhirs are The Hawk stone...

...and the Thorstone

And for a real conundrum go to the indescribably beautiful Cotswold village of Churchill to see:

Make what you can of that lot. Churchill intrigues me massively. I think there's something really big going on up there which was once part of a wider ritual landscape around Chipping Norton, of which the Rollrights were a part.

There are also one or two underwhelming stones to see and some majorly trashed long barrows which are probably not worth it if you're pushed for time.

AND if you can get to the Uffington White Horse, Waylands Smithy, Uffington Castle and the Ridgeway then DO SO. They are only 18 miles from Oxford but they are SOUTH of Oxford and not strictly *between* Oxf and Worcs.

How's tricks in Berkeley? You know I once lived there at 777 Cragmont Avenue.

Great recomendations there Jane - I might have to check the Churchill Stones out soon - not much to see here in Beds/Bucks - so Oxfordshire is my nearest place to be

All the best

Well if you're allowed those, then what about the Radnor Four Stones at the other end?

All great suggestions, thanks! We were thinking of hitting the Rollrights and the Hoarstone anyway -- as long as they don't hit back! The Churchill stones certainly are strange packed so tight. And thanks for confirming my suspicions about the poorly longbarrows.

Berkeley's marvelous, as usual. It's a little bubble from reality, with all the good and bad things that go along with that, but we inhabitants don't mind living in the realm of fantasy.

Send me an email off-list if you and Moth would like to meet up with me and my friend on our way through the area. I'd love to see some of your paintings in person!
