Can you really see to Tucker's Grave? Is that not over the next bump? I read somewhere that there was some Roman stuff found in Wellow - or at least it was originally assumed it was prehistoric, but then later decided to be Roman. I don't know. Half remembered things again.

There is quite a good view out to the west (north west?) I noticed, but as Nigel says, the view directly from the entrance is the least impressive one there is. We didn't have a compass, but could it be significant? Isn't it in TMA that it's aligned with the midwinter/midsummer sunrise (ok, or something or other) - is this right?

On the subject of local names, I also love 'White Ox Mead' which is not far away - sounds like a fairy animal to one with an overactive imagination. Though no doubt is just the variety of animal grazing there in the nineteenth century or something.

I believe its aligned to midwinter sunset and possibly lunar standstill point.
There was a huge chambered tomb nearby called the fairies toote which had a holed blocking stone and according to some reports 26 chambers.
Its at Nempnett Thrubwell (now there's a name for you!)
