Gah! Just typed out a long reply and our server failed just as I hit "Post message"!

Basically, it was a reply to Moth 'n' Jane... I am sorry our paths won't cross on our holidays as I could do with a guide! I've not been anywhere in the North East - my overall knowledge of the North (I'm gonna petition for signs saying "Welcome to The North" and the such after driving for miles and miles to Newcastle following signs to "The North"... "You are now entering The North - please wipe your feet") is negligible...

I've been to Edinburgh, Newcastle (and several Northumberland locations) and bits of North Yorkshire. That's my North experiences. Nowt.

So I'm really lookning forward to Cumbria... I am thinking of visiting Castlerigg and Long Meg, naturally, but can anyone recommend any other beauties in that sort of area? I'll be there for 2 days...

Also - it's been a long time dream of mine to go to pretty much ANY Scottish islands... I just love the idea of being really far North. Any suggestions for places to see between the Lakes, Loch Lomond (looks quite sparse around here, megalithically speaking!), Loch Ness, John O'Groats and Orkney, and back again via Aviemore, Edinburgh and Newcastle, would be much appreciated...

I've not been, but Sunkenkirk (aka: one of the Swinsides) has always looked smashing from photos and write ups.
