Thanks for posting that info Fitz, I wish I’d paid more attention when I was there now, but there were stones all over the place on that part of the moor.
The book you mentioned by Stanhope White – “Early Man in North East Yorkshire”, the only book I can find by that name is by Elgee, also published in 1930 and a bit pricey. There’s a “North York Moors” by Stanhope White though....
Can you clear up the confusion?

Yeh Chris I've dropped a bollock mate ...it is of course Frank Elgee.
I've got a Stanhope White obsession at the moment, I've lost his NYM book and have spent the last 2 years trying to track down a copy of his "Standing Stones of the NYM."
The area around the Bridestones is great, I've yet to find Elgee's Long Barrow though.

It's a pricey book but well worth the money if the NYM are your bag.
There are not many books on the archaeology of the NYM and those that do exist tend to be antiquarian studies so Elgee stands out head and shoulders above the rest. I've got a very sorry looking copy which never gathers dust.
