I could save you the time and effort if you like - they didn't shift themselves! (Of course I have no proof, only the irrefutable knowledge that stones do not and can not physically move themselves, due to having no movable parts. Or - and I hope I'm not offending anyone here - intellect, will or motive.) ;)

The stones, of course! Slippery characters. Which is why it would be so easy to drag them 300 miles over rugged terrain. ;)
Although that said, "the porkies" (and by that I'm assuming you're referring to our porcine friends, once again) are also quite slippery but DO have the advantage of being able to move by themselves.
