if sarsen stone is so hard that slight wear would not erode in 3000 years than it is too hard to wear from wooden rollers in the first place.

.......and another thing, with the wide rollers, perhaps 3ft long, the friction would be tremendous. Think of the way wide or double lorry tyres "scrub" when going round a sharp bend. Jim.
