The free access to Stonehenge for the winter solstice is not advertised and no plans are published. Usually, within an hour of sunrise the gates are opened; we are herded out about an hour after sunrise.Has anyone got any inside knowledge into English Heritage's plans to open the site?
Parking is on the track which crosses the A344 immediately west of the Stonehenge visitor area.
Arrive as early as you like, bearing in mind it'll be bitterly cold. Some vehicles will be there overnight, probably with a camp fire. As dawn approaches the track fills up making it more difficult to park.
