which opens the door to a whole new world of speculation.

Portatemples for instance
;)

This is beginning to sound a bit like the miniature Eiffel Towers on sale in Paris. God forbid they ever find a Neolithic souvenir shop at Stonehenge ;-)

But, you know, why not? Stonehenge must have been one of the wonders of the age, with people coming to see it from near and far. Is it so implausible that pilgrims then, as now, would want a memento of their visit to take home with them? Perhaps there's a danger of us trying to sanitise the past when all the time our ancestors probably had much the same needs and aspirations as we have today...

No-one could call it implausible I guess, and I'm a big fan of speculation based upon an initial hypothesis that the ancient people may have thought and acted just like us.

On the other hand, I find it a bit disturbing to think that thousands of years ago, on the very site of EH's visitor centre, there may have been stalls selling over-priced commemorative tat!
