Yes, http://www.eternalidol.com/ certainly doesn't seem to care much for Prof. Atkinson, and the 'howling savages' remark has certainly got him riled. Howling savages, though, is an extraordinary remark to come out with in any context though don't you think? I'm intrigued by eternalidol's essay but disappointed that he doesn't really say what he suspects - maybe for one reason or another he can't? Perhaps, if he's reading this thread (and is able), he could detail his thoughts/suspicions for us here?

the Atkinson quote comes from an interview with american journalist Alexander Kendricks who asked Atkinson
"Who built Stonehenge professor?"
Atkinson replied
"You have to remember these people are what I would call howling barbarians, they were practically savages."

The whole interview can be seen on the 1964 film The Mystery of Stonehenge which I uncovered in the archive of Gerald S Hawkins last year.
