Brings to mind the effect of 'rowing' the stone across the ground. Hey! A whole new meaning to Stone Row :-)

Rowing, yes, that's how I saw it. It seems such an audaciously simple brainwave: levers lift things, BUT you can use them to move things sideways, just as efficiently, AT THE SAME TIME.
