you're pressing the wrong button - you want to click on the title of the link to send you there.

That little bit is purely so that you can easily cut and paste the link to the page you are viewing to forums etc.

Some people may arrive at the page via the RSS feed and newsreader progs, which do not normally have a menu bar with the URL in it like browsers do. So, by having that link on the page people can see the URL they are viewing. An odd feature, but it does have a purpose.
