I was just today thinking about how valuable a resource we are, taking photos of all those places career archaeologists don't visit because they aren't excavated or scheduled to be. Much of what now starts up is rescue archaeology. How many of the sites we visit will be gone by the time 'proper' archaeologists get around to them. If in the future they disappear ours will like as not be the only records, the quality of the photo (unless it is certifiably crap) not mattering as much as the fact that there is one in existence. Of course if a better image turns up it should replace a lesser one - but who decides ?

I fully agree, but that doesn't stop us having an opinion and discussing it.

I've just gone through and removed nearly 300 posts that were bollocks! I'll be rescanning a lot of my earlier images for megalithomania over the next couple of weeks (I have a new dedicated server now and buckets of space) and will probably re-post some of the ones I have removed after the re-scanning is done.

I'm sure that some of the ones removed would have gone in the cull anyway, so I thought I'd get in there first.

As for better images I think it was once said that if you have a similar, but celarly better photo to one that's already posted then you should post it and then confer with the Eds.
