Smerquoy Stone

close

Adam Stanford of Aerial Cam has just put this video out, the music has rather a hypnotic affect on you. The rock art is pecked into the stone and shaped like a 'heart'.

"A decorated stone was found in St.Ola, Orkney, within part of a Neolithic Structure, it has been dated to 3,200 BC making it the oldest rock art on Orkney."

More information below, the Neolithic structure can be found at the bottom of Wideford Hill.

The music is by In The Nursery. I saw them perform in Edinburgh years ago when they did a live accompaniment to a screening of the silent cinema classic "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari". Haunting and hypnotic indeed.
