Here we go then. Lets see if this works.

All I can say about this is that it was unearthed on the north isles of Orkney

What do you make of this folks?

Yes it is in nteresting stone D . What's it's history , as far as you know ?
If it's genuine then ity could be any period .Much of the Orkney engravings are more lightly incised but there are others that are heavier ,as on the stone . The carvings from Skara Brae ,Eday etc are a bit like the motifs . Discovering whether it it was metal or not that did the incising would useful .I would suggest taking it to Julie Gibson at the college in Kirkwall , if she is not already aware of it .

All i can tell you is its from my mates land and that is where it is staying, archaeologists have allready tried to spirit it away and leave him with a plaster cast!!...and he is not having it!!

The opinion at the time was it was some of the oldest writing ever found here.

Its taken me a couple of years to get it this far in the hope of finding a bit out about it.

Yes, definitely get in touch with Julie, she very kindly helped us with some new carvings that we found at Quoyness. She will certainly be able to point you at the correct expertise and she is very helpful.
