Can I just raise my old reservations on grouping sites? The more I think about it the more I hate it because it means that when you get to the menu page you have to know what 'grouping' a site's in.

For example if the Four Stones went into a 'Walton Basin' grouping, you'd need to know it was in that grouping to find it (or find it through 'search'). So from 'home' you'd go in through the S Wales segment of the map & get no 'Four Stones' - it'd be 'hidden' in 'Walton Basin'.

Does anyone see what I mean? (Obviously it applies to all groupings where the sites included aren't obvious from the name of the group.)

I see what you mean. I did think about a 'County' grouping - e.g. East of England is a bit wide. But Counties change, and you could miss out ona site just over the border.

I don't think there's an ideal solution to the grouping question. That's where the map browser comes into it's own, I think. I'd like to see more 'non-site' detail on there though, such as major roads / towns etc. as an aid to navigation maybe only at higher zoom levels.

I do see what you mean Moth.

If the groups reflect a geographical area then it helps, but only if the person looking knows where the site is. Most people know that Pentre Ifan is in Wales, but which part of Wales is it in? Should they look for a group called Pembrokeshire? Nope! It's under 'West Wales › The Preseli Mountains'. Easy if you know, but not if you don't.

Mind you, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to ways of finding sites on TMA. There's the Map Browser thingy and the search facility, which both work very well.

It would be good to have a more consistent menu structure though.
