Sounds very spooky. Not somewhere to go without your wellies and an anorak either - not somewhere to mess with nature by the sound of it.

I suppose if stone circles are friendly trading places or astronomical reminders then you wouldn't want to go sticking one somewhere in the middle of a bleak frightening place.

Dartmoor has lots of prehistoric remains though? But I suppose it did used to be much warmer then, and perhaps further north that was not the case.

The weather can be severe and very often is. It's over 2,000 feet high and one of the bleakest places in the Pennines. Extensive peat bog with fantastic grit stone rocks. The real horrors are the sludgy black grykes and cloughs. More info here: http://www.cressbrook.co.uk/features/bleaklow.htm
