A drive along Hard Knott and Wrynose Passes is pretty unbeatable - there is a Roman fort along there and it goes past the village of Boot for visiting the Burn Moor complex (for the superfit, which sadly doesn't include me however much I'd love to see all those circles!)

Sunkenkirk is a half hour or so pleasant stroll along a farm track. Blakeley Raise is right next to the road. The Druid's Circle is about a minute's walk off the road. Gamelands is easy to get to (though actually getting in the field is less easy in muddy conditions) and is also near to Castle Howe (next to the road and worth a glance) and Iron Hill. On the map Oddendale is also nearby, but I have never been there. Also not far from poor Kemp Howe which you can see from the road.

Sorry, getting a bit involved - time to plan my own trip back up there, I reckon!

Have a wonderful time!

Cheers Beaker, that's good info. Will print and take with me.

Gamelands and the Shap circles (Oddendale, Iron Hill , Gunnarkeld etc) are very worth visiting, but be warned that its over an hours drive from ulverston - the A590 is busy and slow.
of course you could go the scenic route...

Broughton in Furness IS very hospitable. If you like ancient trees theres some very nice old yew trees in the churchyard there.

the weather up heres finally getting warmer - will be in the 20s this w/e
