IME, most laptops don't have the battery oomph needed to run the HDD or CD for very long anyway. 2 hours at best on mine, and that's fairly new.

Luckily, I've now got an invertor unit for the car, so we can run the laptop off the 12v supply if need be :-)

I've got some books and some maps. I put them in a bag. They always work. I sometimes print some TMA pages to take with me.
