Hi Moth,

Without looking into the population of North Yorks at the time, I'm guessing that there was relatively low population levels and that while there was an abundance of raw materials there weren't the people looking to use it.

Just a guess. I'll have a dig around.

Sounds feasible... though of course there's also a lot of fertile land. Unfortunately I'm just making it up as I go along. I'll have to actually try to find some stuff out & stop being so lazy!
