The figures above are reliable (but rounded 45k = 45,249 for the barn 2011-12). I don't know the percentage of paying customers but I shall ask that question at the earliest opportunity.

Still seems a lot of money for a roof.

Any given type of thatch roof has a known 'shelf life'. It does seem inconceivable to me that that it wasn't known that the roof would need replacing, and unbelievable that no plan was in place to renovate it.
