It is huge, it is listed, and yes it has to be thatch (the huge cost of re-thatching the girt roof is partly why at the end the Wiltshire Rural Life Society closed the 'Great barn' museum and cleared the path for the NT to expand).

The figures above are reliable (but rounded 45k = 45,249 for the barn 2011-12). I don't know the percentage of paying customers but I shall ask that question at the earliest opportunity.

Think it’s a patch up job (at the back) rather than a complete re-thatch (can’t see £80,000 getting anywhere near to achieving a total re-thatch). Video and visitor opinions of Avebury Barn here.
