I'm sure there are plenty of other developers willing to play the "we're improving the look of Avebury" card if they think that's the way to get round the management plan. Either this is just a normal village or it's not. If it's not then special controls must be maintained, not thwarted.

Can't help recalling William Stukeley's words here -

That I suppose is the nub of the situation, on the scales of justice a 4000 year old World Heritage site, a site that is unique and rivals Stonehenge any day, must take the balance on its side against short term considerations of a housing scheme. And of course with all the dangers that this housing scheme entails with regard to future developments....
