One of the reasons I didn't venture off the path to investigate further was the possibility of mining holes! Don't think it was a well btw, but I could be wrong. Squid - Mrs G and I made the same mistake the first time we went there. In shorts. Which was a big mistake because the path was, at the time, pretty indistinguishable due to gorse! Ouch! And it was a scorcher, and we got a bit sunburned. Happy days! :D
But... Sorry - didn't see the stones you're referring to! Useless, huh? ;)
We passed a local walking his dog and he told us to watch out for the disused open mines hidden in the undergrowth - couldn't be something to do with those, could it? Or he could have been pulling our leg... :)
We might be visiting the end of September - might go for a looksee!
