Hello Jane
Thank you for the welcome. As a little girl I was brought up as both catholic, going to church on sundays, feast days, etc. and another tradition where I went with my granny and uncle Doc. Standing stones? I dont remember, although I do remember streams, rocks, trees and even little ordinary plots of land that had spiritual significance. I will ask my uncle Doc about the stones, next time I hear from him.

Hi Nidge
I believe that many African/Caribbean people are of west African origin, where there is a long and proud tradition of stone circle building. http://www.gambia.dk/stones.html
It strikes me as likely that some of those deep-seated traditions would have been carried over with the people who were stolen from their homeland and shipped to the Caribbean. It may be that although they couldn't build circles (though they might have), they may have applied the 'spirit of place' ideas to landscape features like springs, rocky outcrops, etc. These things appear to universal, irrespective of geography.

I'd be very interested to hear what Uncle Doc has to say.

I'd love to go to Jamaica.
