Hmm, sorry again, I didn't go to school in the UK and I am a bit of a clumbsy writer, didn't know what word to use to explain the starters level as it takes some time and go through different stages to learn how to intepretate the stone, this is a consistancy.
How then the stone gets read/translated is for everyones own interpretation, like this came out of the last stone - Stanton painting, sticking to my own photo, but perhaps someone else gets the image at a slightly better angle and it comes out better or slightly different, sometimes there are 2 images to a stone, sometimes non. But the measurements will be there.

Hi Jo-anne

I didn't actually mention it because I doubted the validity for TMA, I was just interested.

Is there not a danger that you're seeing summat that isn't there/intended?

Hi Jo-Anne

Actually I should have written it thus:

>> for this I took 2 examples that are easy to see for the novice [my italics]

I am very used to seeing faces in stone and judging comparative proportions (many here will do it even if they don't realise it). It seems to me that, as well as your grid system, you are talking about abstract faces being either carved into stones or stones being selected for their natural likeness - this is called simulcra I think. If you are not refering to faces in stones then forgive me for misinterpretting your words.

One thing to be careful of when looking at the proportions of stones is that many will have settled so that they no longer stick out from the ground as they did when first erected. Many have been re-erected in modern times.
