The Tao worked, unable to save the pits, but got an additional 500 signatures on the petition, which is not at 2,500 - 25% of my completely unfeasible target set just six weeks ago. Met a lot of new contacts even got Lady Masham to sign, and several local councilors and even the archaeologist who did the first survey of Thornborough in 51 - made a lot of new friends. We've got videos of the destruction just in case, and while we were there, found a number of archaeological features not recorded on the watching brief map. Including some that required us to notify the police. No more on them, since we will be looking to compare our finds with those reported by the quarry in due course. That will be an interesting exercise. We also sold some 200+ items of Thornborough merchandise, there a lot more local people know and understand about Thornborough now. I spoke all day for two days, there were five of us on the stand and for long periods it was six deep. In the last six weeks or so Freinds of Thornborough membership has gone from 200 to 500+ In fact we are very concerned about the size of the hall booked for Thursdays meeting and have booked an alternative option - the entire church, not just the hall. We wrote to Tarmac to ask them to hopld off ripping up these alignments so we could investigate further, we welcome their clear answer.
Quietly, the storm gathers momentum.
