Well, I hoped they would last longer than this, but the bulldozers moved in today at the Thornborough pit alignments and within the next couple of days there will be no more archaeology on the current quarry site to save. Here is my webpage about three could be totally unique pit alignments included in this destruction, the same ones that our County archaeologist says do not exist. This means of course that the letter of PPG16 was never applied. The maps are both based on ones taken from the watching brief output.

Of course I can't say for certain these are directly linked to the henges, but in a climate where everyone seems to deny they exist, one can't help thinking that they must be.

What do you think?

I'm sorry about the bulldozers. I didn't realise that others also had difficulties with blind professionals. The process of loss is similar whether it is a five thousand year old burial mound, a one thousand year old Norse hut or a one hundred year old urban heath landscape. My cliche is that conservation is about 'making things last longer'. But human culture is a hungry monster gobbling up everything in its path.

The first rule of First Aid also applies to conservation - don't put your own health in jeopardy. In the context of saving butterflies and megaliths this means 'don't burn out'. (You have seen Pirates of the Caribbean?) There's a large icesheet in the Arctic just broken up - has anyone heard about it ? (Of course not !)

The local government archaeologists have an association - which I call ALGAE. They must have an annual conference somewhere. Maybe there are seminars...

I read the original title as 'Farewll my lovely gits' and thought you were leaving us!

Shit. Sorry to hear of the destruction. Buckle up and know no that you have to go for the rest of the ride.

Use this bad thing to your advantage (a bit of Taoism never hurt anyone [did it?]). You have to shout to everyone you canvas now that "We've already lost this!Let's fight really hard for the rest!"

Ride On!!

Hi BN,
Hang on in there, sounds like you're making yourselves (and the situation) more widely known.

I will be passing on the A1 tomorrow, unfortunately no time to stop but I will think of the place as I pass
all the best
